Collection: 'Windows'
Windows is body of work about coming back to yourself. It explores freedom, freedom from judgment, from expectations, and from who we think we should be, and invites a return to what we truly want and who we really are. Each print offers a quiet pause, a step into presence, and a reflection on the inner world.
Each piece begins with a hand-carved block print drawn from nature. In this collection, finches, sparrows, and hummingbirds appear alongside delicate leaves and flowers. These prints form the foundation, giving the work rhythm, structure, and a sense of continuity.
Every piece features a window, a symbolic portal into the figure’s space and mind. It suggests perspective, reflection, and the subtle invitation to see beyond what is immediately visible. The window becomes a threshold where the natural world, the figure, and the viewer intersect, offering a glimpse into presence, stillness, and self-awareness.
The interplay of block print and paint mirrors the tension between structure and softness, between the external world and the inner life. These portraits honour reflection, quiet strength, and the moments when you feel rooted, free, and fully aligned with yourself. Windows is an invitation to pause, breathe, and explore the inner landscapes that make us who we are.
Artist Bio
Karen Bramhill is a contemporary Ottawa-based artist whose portraits explore the intricacies of identity and the unspoken truths revealed in body language. She views portraiture as a way to capture both likeness and essence, uncovering what is seen and unseen.
Her creative journey began in childhood, wandering gallery corridors and sketching endlessly, before life took her away from painting. Years later, while living in Malaysia, she rediscovered the easel as a path of self-discovery and returned to her true passion. Since then, she has devoted herself to creating portraits that reflect the dialogue between reason and emotion, with each brushstroke a step toward connection and understanding.
Her work is held in private collections worldwide and continues to spark conversation, invite reflection, and celebrate the richness of the human experience.
